Equally Safe: Scotland’s Strategy for Preventing and Eradicating Violence Against Women and Girls sees Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE), as a form of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). This session aims to enhance attendees’ understanding of the links between CSE and VAWG and to improve their capacity to respond to the needs of women who may be affected.

By the end of this introductory session, attendees will have a better understanding of:

• The strategic context around commercial sexual exploitation
• The links between commercial sexual exploitation and other forms of violence against women and girls
• Commercial sexual exploitation and its different forms
• The dynamics and factors that push women and girls into selling and exchanging sex

This training will be delivered by the Women’s Support Project.

Based in Glasgow, the Women’s Support Project works nationally to end violence against women by raising awareness of the root causes, extent and impact of male violence and for improved services for those affected.

Facilitator:

Linda Thompson is the National Commercial Sexual Exploitation Coordinator in Scotland and based within the The Women’s Support Project which has been at the forefront of raising awareness of CSE as a form of violence against women and calling for the criminalisation of those who exploit women through prostitution. Linda is also the national coordinator of Encompass, a network of Scottish agencies that provide support and exiting services to people involved in prostitution. She also sits on many Scottish national working groups including on child sexual exploitation, commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
